FOOD FESTIVALS & FAIRS 2018

Northern Vegan Festival, Manchester - 7 April 2018
Picture
Another great Vegan Festival, this time in Manchester. The Northern Vegan Festival keeps going from strength to strength! Taking place in Manchester Central in the city centre, it was really well attended and very busy. The energy was great, and as always I had some enlightening conversations with vegans, vegetarians and the "vegan curious" alike.

As always, I met some fantastic people, stallholders and visitors alike. Some of the stand out ones were George of Gorgosaurus Vegan Bakery. She makes some amazing vegan cakes and other sweet treats that taste as delicious as they look. I also had the pleasure of meeting and chatting to the lovely Kay, aka "The Purple Vegan on Wheels"! As her name suggests, she loves purple, and is a vegan. I love the way that even her chair is colour coordinated - how fierce!!

North Yorkshire Vegan Festival - 17 March 2018
The North Yorkshire Vegan Festival was my very first outing in Harrogate, North Yorks. It was a great day, but I think it's attendance was hampered by the latest leg of the "Beast from the East", which threatened to kick in all day. Luckily, the on and off snow flurries never really took hold, but I still think the threat of it puts people off from venturing out.

I met some lovely new stallholders including SuperU, who make some fantastic bowls and cutlery from discarded coconut shells! I love their sustainability ethos, and the fact that I can truly use all of a coconut when making some of my products! I also had the pleasure of getting a truly effective shoulder and neck massage from Leigh-Anne at Jung Shim. This was a massage like no other I've ever had before! Chunsoo is an energy treatment that uses a combination of acupressure and sound to release deep rooted tension and knots from the body, whilst recharging your ‘human energy’. As you can imagine, the idea of it was right up my street, and I totally sold on it now. I also met the lovely King & Queen in the picture, and had a great chat about the vegan lifestyle and The Black Panther. I wonder what their diet was like in Wakanda?!

West Yorkshire Vegan Festival - 27 January 2018
Picture
Picture
Picture
Organised by Farplace Animal Rescue, the West Yorkshire Vegan Festival was back in West Yorkshire in Huddersfield, having previously been held in Dewsbury. It was my first time exhibiting with them so I was really looking forward to it.

There were some fantastic exhibitors there, including one of my favourites, Besos. If you haven't tried their vegan version of Bailey's - I think you should! I also met for the first time, the fabulous Brownins Food, who make delicious vegan jerk chicken - who new there was such a thing!

All proceeds went to Farplace Animal Rescue, and the animals they help, who have often been rejected elsewhere. From horses to feral cats, wildlife to terrapins, your money spent with them allows them to be there for so many animals in need.

The Yorkshire Dales Yoga Show - 13 January 2018
Picture
Picture
This was my first time at The Yorkshire Dales Yoga Show, and what a great event! Again, I was very blessed to exhibit at a "First Show" that was really busy, well attended and had great feedback from visitors! There was some excellent food being served, including raw tiramisu, and really delicious chickpea burgers - yum, yum!

There were free yoga taster sessions on the stage, which meant for once I got to see some action! I was also lucky enough to be next to another great stall holder selling essential oils, the same company I was next to in November, and the inspiration for my next truffle! Local resident and fellow small business owner, Christine of Christie's Crafts also stopped by. Christie and I have become good pals having met on Twitter, and are part of a friendly group of fellow small business owners who socialise a fair bit on Twitter, and just support one another.

The day was a fantastic outing, and I'm really looking forward to next year being bigger & better! :)

FOOD FESTIVALS & FAIRS 2017

Great Yorkshire Vegan Festival - 26 November
Picture
Picture
The 2017 Leeds WinterFest Vegan Christmas Market was my second Winterfest, and again it was a great event!

Probably not so much to start with for anyone queuing outside, as again, we had a particularly cold day. Once you were inside though, you found a lovely warm bunch of stall holders, events, talks and all manner of vegan goodies to warm you through, so you soon forgot how cold you were!

This year I was down in the basement, which initially I thought would feel like some kind of grotto, but nothing could be further from the truth! All sections of the festival were well signposted, and it was heaving to say the least! I was also really pleased to see that the area itself was dressed really cleverly, with faux trees and foliage, which was so perfectly in keeping with my mission statement; "from the tree to my kitchen."

My vegan salted caramel sauce made it's debut, and I was delighted to find that the sample jars that I bought sold out within the hour! My product research and testing definitely paid off!

Above is a pic of me with two of my "Abundance Groupies", the lovely Gina & Paula! They attend many of the festivals that I exhibit at, and always stop by for a chat and to stock up on healthy treats! Very spookily, I met them at a completely unrelated Inspiring Women's event just a few days before - our beautiful world is getting smaller!

Wakefield Vegan Festival - 4 November
Picture
Wakefield made history this year, hosting it's first ever vegan festival! It was a fantastic day, with lots of great stall holders, demos, presentations and live music!

It nearly never happened too! The original venue went bust just days before the event. Luckily the good Samaritans at The Hepworth museum and art gallery stepped in to save the day.
Picture
This was a really busy event, to say it was the first one, and as is often the case, I met lots of great people, some for the first time, and others old friends.

This is Nicky & Trevor Kendrick, a fantastically gifted couple, who are Massage Therapists, who I met through the raw pot lucks I go to.  I have learned so much from both of them, as amongst other things they're very, very knowledgeable about healthy living & eating. The often come to the vegan festivals, so it's always great to see familiar faces and catch up with them.
Picture
Another familiar face, who often attends vegan festivals is Cassie. I met her through my "kind of mentor" Mariesa, and she's a very talented Yoga Teacher. I know this because I attended her brilliant Raw Food & Yoga Retreat in Grasmere, a particularly stunning part of The Lake District.

Cassie's organising her first festival, The Yorkshire Dales Yoga Show in the market town of Skipton in January, which I'm very much looking forward to!
Picture

Of the new faces I met, a couple who really stood out to me were the lovely Susan, and her Mum Caroline.

The first bought some of my truffles earlier in the day, then came round again for more, as they'd eaten them all! Now that's a lovely position to be in!

We also had a really informative chat about veganism and vegetarianism - learned a lot from them both, which is always good material for my blog and newsletter.

Picture
And some more new faces…

As much as I love doing the rounds of the food festivals, you are stood around for a pretty long day. So who you’re set up next to can make the difference to how your day goes.

I was blessed to be set up next to two lovely women, April & Viv are Essential Oils Consultant! We had a fantastic chat and banter, and I’m looking forward to attending their ‘Introduction to Essential Oils’ class later this month.

I could be a new avenue for me, using essential oils in my chocolate, yum!

Yorkshire Yoga, Health and Wellbeing Show -  2 September
Yorkshire Yoga, Health and Wellbeing Show was the first event of it's kind run by the team of volunteers who run The Great Yorkshire Vegan Festival. For they first time they created a holistic mix of yoga classes and demos, stalls, talks and more. It was a great idea to combine these lifestyle topic together, and it went down really well. The Town Hall was again abuzz with lots of positive energy and wellness!
As always I met some fantastic peeps, old and new, I even tried a 'yoga' move or two myself!

The Great Yorkshire Vegan Festival - 17 June

Leeds Market - 8 April
I was blessed to get the opportunity to have a stall in the world-renowned Leeds Kirkgate Market, as part of their Easter Market. The largest covered market in Europe, and the original home of Marks & Spencer. It was a pleasure to exhibit with fellow PopUp Business School traders, Carol Sorhaindo, Tracey Pinder, and Jade. It was also an honour to meet the Founder and Chairperson of Leeds West Indian Carnival, Arthur France M.B.E. Easter Bunny was provided by the lovely Same Difference Outdoor Performance.
Ps. The irony of having a stall adjacent to the Butchers wasn't lost on me!

Leeds Coeliac UK Gluten Free Fair - 25 March

I was blessed to be able to exhibit at the summer version of this hugely popular event for the first time, and I choose really lucky for my first summer attendance! Firstly because as it was the event's first time in it's new home of Leeds FD Arena, and secondly because it was held on one of the rare boiling hot days, and the arena has air con! That was incredibly welcome believe me!
As always, I met some fantastic people and my products sold well. My new fangled display case also made it's first outing. You can read more about the event in the blog I did, Food, Festivals & Frolicks.

WHERE NEXT?

This will be my first time at The Yorkshire Dales Yoga Show, so I'm really looking forward to exhibiting!
There'll be free yoga taster sessions, and over 30 stalls of not just food, all of which will be vegan friendly. Children under 16 get free entry.
Hope to see you there! :)

Thank you Marcia, your cheesecake was absolutely delicious! As predicted, it didn't last long. Thanks again
Abi
Just wanted to say the cheesecakes were boooom!! Enjoyed by all and turned our wet and chilly birthday gathering in the woods into a flavour rave!
Shinghai, Leeds
I must say it's great to have healthy chocolate and cake that quench my craving, I don't feel hungry after, it's amazing really, it takes away unhealthy cravings and works well for me. 😁
Nakita, Leeds

Thank you so much for the truffles and cheesecake. I've been looking for natural raw desserts in the area for ages and then I came across your site. The strawberry cheesecake was amazing and all the truffles tasted Devine especially the caramel one-gorgeous. So glad i found you. Brilliant personal service as well.
Emma, Leeds

Let's talk AMAZING vegan salted caramel sauce from @abundancefoodsleeds! It's amazing, it tastes better than 'regular' caramel, and it has a richer and deeper flavour made from coconut sugar.
Preye, Manchester

Well, Well, Well Abundance Foods - you have done it again! The raw luscious lime cheesecake is absolutely divine! It's rich, smooth and just enough sweetness to balance the tartness of the lime. Gorgeous, thank you
Tracey, Leeds
I started [eating your salted caramel] with a spoon out of the jar then I had the rest with cheese and crackers. It’s so delicious that you have to put a warning on the label! May cause you to hide and eat it all by yourself!
Carmen, Nottingham
I was lucky enough to come across Marcia at a vegan & yoga event I was working at. Immediately she was so welcoming and helpful, I bought a number of her delicious homemade goodies as at the time I was following a strict dairy free diet but craved something sweet! Both myself and my husband enjoyed her desserts so much, that I ordered more. Marcia the very next day, delivered them to my house! Fantastic service and delicious and nutritious treats. I can't wait to sample the whole range on offer!!
Ruth, Leeds
"Marcia's chocolate truffles are simply the best. Perfect taste and texture and beautifully presented. Showing that healthy treats can not only be greater but better than the rest."
Dean, Leeds
"I'm so grateful that you went out of your way to make a cake and put icing on it for me. It is honestly the best vegan cake I have ever tasted."
