If you're reading this blog because you want to make healthier choices about what you eat, then I want you to know you're in good company!

On my travels I speak to so many people that want to do exactly the same, so in this blog I will be sharing with you my journey to making healthier choices about what to eat, so that you can make them too!

If you really want to eat healthy and stick to it, but have struggled in the past or even right now, I’m so glad you're here! Not because I want to revel in your misery, but because I want you to know that I personally understand what it's like to feel like that. I've given in to stuffing myself silly with crappy food, that unsurprisingly made me feel like crap, and regretted it afterwards - trust me!

You can get overcome this, and with the right knowledge and guidance you can eat healthier without feeling deprived, or going on diets that often don't work, or wasting your life counting calories!

Over the past 10 years or so I’ve gradually given up most processed foods, all dairy, all refined sugar, gluten and started on my healthy eating journey. I now very rarely eat meat or chicken, and still eat some fish and shellfish. I still can't believe how much better i feel and look, inside and out by eating more plant-based and whole foods! This decision also inspired me to set up Abundance Foods - read more about my story here.

If that sounds like a boring and tasteless life full of gruel and flavourless cardboard - i promise you it isn't, but you'll find out more about that as I share my healthy eating tips, recipes and advice with you.

A healthy food journey

I call this a healthy food journey because it's still one for me, and I'm not totally there yet by any stretch! If I had to put a label on my approach to food, I'd call it a "80/20 lifestyle."

What does that mean...?

Essentially, I eat nutritious foods 80% of the time, and less healthy foods the other 20%. By "less healthy" I mean things like eating out, meals I haven't prepared myself from scratch, or ingredients that I can't find the origin of.

I know enough about myself to know that there will be times when my healthy habits start to wane, I have slip ups and days when I just want to eat lard! A big step in personal development for me has been accepting that this is natural and just a part of life. When it happens I just remember that every day is a new day, a chance for a new beginning and just get back on my health wagon!

I meet so many people who want to do the very same thing, but don't know where to start. So I want to share with you the knowledge, tips and tricks I've gained along the way, so that you too can live a healthier lifestyle, and feel even better!

But don't get me wrong, this won't be a blog about starting to eat food and ingredients that suck the joy out of eating - absolutely not! If your food is healthy for you but tastes like twigs, how does that help you? There also won't be anything in there about dieting or counting calories either I’m afraid, as I prefer to focus on the nutritional benefits of eating proper food. Nor will I make you feel guilty about what you're currently eating. We're all at different stages on our journey, and we will get there faster without judgement or finger-pointing

Instead I'll be sharing how you too can make lifestyle changes, and start enjoying eating really healthy food in a tasty, wholesome way without compromising on flavour! Where I share recipes they will be healthy and quick too, using as few ingredients as possible. Because, let's face it, when you've just got in from work and you're hungry, the last thing you want is an hour-long wait for your meal!

In my next blog I'll be sharing tips on how to eat less of the bad 'sugar', along with some sugar-free recipes.

So come with me on this journey, and let's enjoy the healthy ride together!

Thanks for sharing this blog post Marcia! I've struggled with my junk food addiction for years, and really got what you're saying. I try to eat sensibly, but I struggle with knowing what to use instead of the fatty versions of things. The sugar is definitely my biggest weakness, so I'm looking forward to your next blog

Hi Marcia
Thanks for this, I've eagerly awaiting your blog and what a great start. I try to do the 20%, but it usually ends up the other way around, lol. I'm glad you get how I feel, some of the people I speak to just have a pop at me and think I don't try. Did you take you a long time to get there?

Hey Sammi, you're welcome and thanks for your feedback! I genuinely do know how you feel, as in the beginning it really was a struggle to eat well more times than not. The truth is I'm still on my journey, which is one of the reasons I do the 80/20 thing. That gives me the space to slip up, as I know I will from time to time. The best advice I'd give is to give yourself time. As you learn new ways to eat healthier, and your taste buds start to adjust, and you start to notice that you feel better, you will naturally be motivated to keep doing more of the same. I'm looking forward to sharing my healthy tips with you, so I'm confident you will get there!

Hi Marcia

I'm looking forward to getting some recipes and finding ways to cut down on the bad stuff I sometimes eat, and if it's easy that will be even better, thanks :)

Hey Evelyn

Guess who??? 😜

Well, I just saw the link to your blog posted on Twitter by creativebizhour and decided to come and read it. I'm glad I did because I can totally relate!

I started a healthy lifestyle plan of eating better and exercising roughly a couple of years ago and over the course of approximately five months, I lost about 5 1/2 stone. I went from a size 22 down to size 16, looked and felt so much better, gained lots more energy and improved other health issues that I had previously including coming off blood pressure tablets completely. I maintained my weight loss for approximately a year and then… started to wane 😢😢

Now I've put about half of what I lost back on and I'm having heaps of trouble trying to get back to the plan that I was on before. 😢 I was basically eating lean meats, fruit and veg and virtually no carbs whatsoever. I didn't eat any processed foods, I made everything from scratch myself so that I knew exactly what was going into my food and I did roughly 10 to 15 minutes of HIIT exercise approximately five days a week. I've found that the exercise was easy but was becoming boring so I did try going to an exercise class once a week for about six weeks for something different but it didn't really make a difference because my eating habits had changed again. I even tried sone different forms of exercise but nothing stuck.

So, now I'm heavy and fat again and feeling like a big bloated while and quite disappointed with myself as you can imagine. Anyway, I might continue reading your blog and perhaps it might help me to get back on track. Who knows hey! 😃

Anyway, thanks so much for all your lovely support on Twitter and let's stay in touch!

Hi Christine

It's so lovely to hear from you, and thank you for sharing your journey so candidly! Believe it or not, I do completely understand where you're coming from, as I've often fallen off the healthy band wagon myself enough times! You clearly know all the right things to do, in particular balancing your healthy eating with some great exercise like HIIT.

I would also say try not to be hard on yourself, as we all have things that we want to work on. I usually find that small steps work best to get you going again. So instead of feeling bad about not exercising, try committing to doing 10 minutes a day every other day, until you’re back in the swing. If you know you can give in to temptation (like I can), what often works for me is to really push myself to say ‘no’ to whatever it is I know I shouldn’t be eating. I find that pulling all my willpower to do this helps me regain my inner power, and tells me that I can do it once, and so I can do it again! Perhaps you have a friend or relative that you know you can share how you feel with. Someone who will be hard on you when you both know you need it, but is also there to support and encourage you when you overcome a hurdle, even if it feels like a small one.

Thanks for all your support on Twitter too Christine, and yes, let’s definitely stay in touch, as I’d love to know how you’re getting on!

Be Blessed

Thank you Marcia, your cheesecake was absolutely delicious! As predicted, it didn't last long. Thanks again

Just wanted to say the cheesecakes were boooom!! Enjoyed by all and turned our wet and chilly birthday gathering in the woods into a flavour rave!
Shinghai, Leeds
I must say it's great to have healthy chocolate and cake that quench my craving, I don't feel hungry after, it's amazing really, it takes away unhealthy cravings and works well for me. 😁
Nakita, Leeds

Thank you so much for the truffles and cheesecake. I've been looking for natural raw desserts in the area for ages and then I came across your site. The strawberry cheesecake was amazing and all the truffles tasted Devine especially the caramel one-gorgeous. So glad i found you. Brilliant personal service as well.
Emma, Leeds

Let's talk AMAZING vegan salted caramel sauce from @abundancefoodsleeds! It's amazing, it tastes better than 'regular' caramel, and it has a richer and deeper flavour made from coconut sugar.
Preye, Manchester

Well, Well, Well Abundance Foods - you have done it again! The raw luscious lime cheesecake is absolutely divine! It's rich, smooth and just enough sweetness to balance the tartness of the lime. Gorgeous, thank you
Tracey, Leeds
I started [eating your salted caramel] with a spoon out of the jar then I had the rest with cheese and crackers. It’s so delicious that you have to put a warning on the label! May cause you to hide and eat it all by yourself!
Carmen, Nottingham
I was lucky enough to come across Marcia at a vegan & yoga event I was working at. Immediately she was so welcoming and helpful, I bought a number of her delicious homemade goodies as at the time I was following a strict dairy free diet but craved something sweet! Both myself and my husband enjoyed her desserts so much, that I ordered more. Marcia the very next day, delivered them to my house! Fantastic service and delicious and nutritious treats. I can't wait to sample the whole range on offer!!
Ruth, Leeds
"Marcia's chocolate truffles are simply the best. Perfect taste and texture and beautifully presented. Showing that healthy treats can not only be greater but better than the rest."
Dean, Leeds
"I'm so grateful that you went out of your way to make a cake and put icing on it for me. It is honestly the best vegan cake I have ever tasted."
